Chaocipher

John F. Byrne invented the Chaocipher in 1918 and published a 13,615-letter challenge, Exhibit 1, in his memoir Silent Years (1953). The method stayed secret until his family gave his papers to the National Cryptologic Museum in 2010: two alphabets, both permuted after every letter by the pair just used.
